Beatrix*Jar
[Electro-collage]
Circuit-bent instruments are toys that you played with in Kindergarten such as a Speak & Spell or Casio keyboards. Beatrix*Jar uses these as instruments but their Speak & Read is running low on batteries and the weird computer voice is warbly and dieing. Also employed to paste together an uneven collage of electronic, beat-driven electro-pop are sample machines that sound like a frog is stuck in there somewhere, keys and their own awkwardly delivered crappy lyrics. The vocals often fall somewhere into a no-mans-land of spoken word, rhyming and singing. Take for instance, Paint by Numbers: "Under the covers / We become lovers / You are magenta / And you are silver / We chromey stew / Red one / White two / Blue three." Oh dear.
